Datacenter One (DC1), now under the AtlasEdge umbrella since its acquisition in February 2023, has unveiled its latest data centre – the HAM1 facility in Hamburg.

This move marks DC1’s first facility launch as part of the AtlasEdge group.

The opening of HAM1 aligns with DC1’s strategy of developing regional data centres across Germany, catering to the country’s growing need for localised digital infrastructure.

Wolfgang Kaufmann, CEO of Datacenter One, said: “This new facility takes our total number of sites in the country to seven. With AtlasEdge’s support, we expect to grow this presence further. We have other new sites currently under development, with the next one to be built in Stuttgart.”

HAM1 Signifies Strategic Data Centre Expansion in Germany

Situated in Ahrensburg, northeast of Hamburg, HAM1 is poised to complement AtlasEdge’s existing data centre in the city, addressing the increasing demand for infrastructure deployments closer to end-users.

The facility’s inauguration has already attracted its first customers, reinforcing Hamburg’s status as a burgeoning tech and startup hub in Europe.

“We are witnessing incredible demand in northern Germany for highly available, certified, and future-proof data centre space,” said Kaufmann.

Its modular construction approach, emphases sustainability, resource optimisation, and time efficiency. The facility, once fully expanded, will boast a capacity of approximately 10,000sqm and up to 20MW of power.

Giuliano Di Vitantonio, CEO of AtlasEdge, said: “We have long identified Germany as a market characterised by exceptionally strong customer demand across multiple metros, and this new site consolidates our presence in Europe’s largest digital economy.”

Key features of HAM1 include:

  • 2N power supply for each rack
  • Decentralised cooling for each data centre room, tailored to customer-specific requirements
  • Energy efficiency with a PUE < 1.3
  • Operation on 100% renewable energy
  • Comprehensive certifications, including ISO 27001 BSI basic protection, EN 50600 Level 3, and ISO 9001
