Global IT and networks giant NEC Corporation and Libelium, a Spain-based designer and producer of machine-to-machine (M2M) technologies, have partnered to advance IoT solutions for smart city applications.
The strategic deal will see NEC combine its CONNEXIVE IoT Platform with Libelium’s gateways and sensor offering, promising to deliver advanced capabilities for connected devices, support for large-scale data storage, and processing and analytics.
According to the official release, NEC hopes to offer a more innovative range of solutions to a wider reach of customers, including telecom carriers and enterprise organisations. The companies are aiming to work together to achieve a faster time to market for their solutions to be able to launch more effectively into smart city, smart building and smart traffic projects.
NEC added that Libelium’s sensor data would also become available in plug-and-play mode for many of its IoT applications, without the need for extra programming.
“Through this partnership, NEC will expand the IoT ecosystem and contribute to customer efficiency while creating new social value,” noted senior vice president of NEC Corporation, Shigeru Okuya.
He continued: “Libelium’s robust IoT sensor portfolio and NEC’s experience in integrating IoT solutions brings a unique, ready-to-use offering to the IoT market.”
Alicia Asin, CEO of Libelium added that the firm is currently shifting its focus from sensor devices to its IoT Gateway Meshium in order to expand its presence across the entire IoT value chain and to allow further development of end to end solutions.
“The high interoperability of our IoT platform allows customers to access new market opportunities by flexibly connecting sensors and devices to any cloud platform through a full range of communication protocols,” she said.
