Apple unveils iPhone 6, 6 Plus and the Apple Watch

Apple announced its new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones, as well as its long-awaited Apple Watch, at a keynote event in California on Tuesday.
Chief executive Tim Cook and senior vice president Phil Schiller presented the new products at the Flint Centre of Performing Arts in Cupertino, where Steve Jobs launched the very first Apple Mac computer 30 years ago.
The duo referred to the new smartphones as “the biggest advancement in the history of iPhone,” adding that they were “the best phones ever made.”
The iPhone 6 boasts a 4.7-inch display, and the Plus version measures 5.5 inches, compared to the 5s’ 4-inch screen. Each model will offer 16GB, 64GB or 128GB of storage, and will be priced between £539 for the 16GB iPhone 6 and £789 for the 128GB iPhone 6 Plus model.
The second product launch was the much-anticipated Apple Watch – the company’s first original line since the iPad 4 years ago.
Available in three editions, Sport, Standard, and Luxury, the Apple Watch is able to connect with your iPhone to send and receive messages, answer calls, and record health and activity data.
According to Cook, it is the “most personal product” Apple has ever created.
“With Apple Watch, we’ve developed multiple technologies and an entirely new user interface specifically for a device that’s designed to be worn. It blurs the boundary between physical object and user interface,” explained Apple’s senior vice president of Design, Jony Ive.
“We’ve created an entire range of products that enable unparalleled personalisation,” he added.
Apple Watch users will navigate through the interface using a conventional watch side dial called the Digital Crown, as opposed to the traditional iPhone pinch-to-display method. The Digital Crown also acts as the home and Siri activation button.
The watches come with the option of interchangeable straps, including rubber, leather, and metal links. It has been priced at $349 and will be available to buy from the beginning of next year. UK prices and launch dates have not yet been released.
