Interxion to construct new data centres in Frankfurt and Marseille

Tue 30 Oct 2018

Leading European data centre service provider Interxion has announced it will construct new data centres in Frankfurt and Marseille to meet continued customer demand

Interxion’s Frankfurt campus is one of Germany’s largest cloud and connectivity hubs and has the densest concentration of networks in Frankfurt, with over 20 cloud deployments from big-name global cloud platforms and over 200 network service providers.

Twelve carrier and cloud-neutral data centres are already located at the campus, which serves clients such as Bombardier.

The new data centre in Frankfurt will be constructed in four phases, delivering 9,600 sqm of space and providing 19mw of available power when completed. Interxion is aiming to complete the first phase by the first quarter of 2020, with the centre costing around €175 million in total.

Marseille’s new data centre will be a three-phase construction, 7100 sqm in size, provide 17mw of power, and cost €140 million to construct.

“Strong demand from global customers is driving our growth in each of Frankfurt and Marseille as they seek to benefit from the highly-developed communities of interest that we have created,” said CEO David Ruberg.

The news comes on the back of a flurry of data centre construction news in Frankfurt. Germany’s largest economy has established itself as the country’s foremost digital transformation and connectivity hub.

Just last week, CyrusOne announced a new 22MW, 11,500 sqm facility in Frankfurt, also set for completion by 2020.

In addition, ethics and compliance service provider Navex Global has announced the opening of a new Frankfurt data facility, as part its effort to promote in data privacy in European industry.

Data Centre World Frankfurt lands at the Messe on November 7, inviting leading data centre experts, infrastructure and service providers to share the latest news and insights on the European data centre industry and their views on what lies ahead. Registration is open and the event is free to attend.
