Colt to construct six new halls at London North data centre

Wed 12 Sep 2018

Colt Data Centre Services (DCS) has announced that it will build six new data halls at its London North data centre.

The six new halls will form the first part of a major expansion project at the site which will allow Colt to house 10 new data halls in total.

The delivery of the first two halls will be in Q1 of 2019 with the rest being delivered in Q2.

Colt’s London North centre provides multi-tenant colocation facilities and currently houses four data halls.

At present, the annualised design power usage effectiveness of the facility is <1.2 below the current industry average, with Colt expecting the project to increase power supply from the present 38MW to 68MW.

The company states that the large increase would be ‘enough to supply power to 250,000 households in the UK.’

CEO Detlef Spang said: “London North is one of our busiest data centres due to the scale and location of the facility.

“With demand for cloud services growing exponentially, we are investing heavily in this facility to expand our data centre facilities to serve our customers better.”

Customer demands on Colt’s London North data centre have driven the decision as its current halls are already being used by an existing tenant.

The new phase will help to boost Colt’s plans to bring in carrier-neutral hyperscale cloud providers and provide super-fast connectivity.

The centre is over 12,500sqm and is also Tier 3, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 27001 certified.

The news of six new data halls has been released two months after Colt and Internap Corporation (INAP) agreed to a multi-year alliance to build a new standalone, self-contained Tier 3 data centre which will be fully operational by Q4 this year.

Colt has over 1000 customers that use its 24 carrier-neutral data centres across Europe and Asia.
