DCM Summer

Welcome to the Summer 2017 edition of Data Centre Management

Last month, the world became victim to probably the largest-scale cyber attack ever to have occurred. The WannaCry ransomware affected an estimated 200,000 organisations in 150 companies before it was stopped in its tracks by 22-year-old Marcus Hutchins.

This shows that the more we rely on data in our daily lives, the bigger the impact these attacks will have, and with money to be made from ransomware, the likelihood is this won’t be the last we see of its kind.

Of course, security is a huge factor for data centre managers to be concerned with, but operational professionalism also comes into play when considering how to protect ourselves against this type of attack. Our hot topic in this issue focuses on exactly that.

In this issue:

The real reasons why DCIM projects fail
Venessa Moffat of Agile Momentum offers some sage advice on what is going wrong for DCIM

The importance of learning and communication
Steve Weiner of Cyxtera Technologies looks at why we need to change our behaviours in order to meet data centre challenges

The light bulb moment
Steve Bowes-Phipps of PTS Consulting Group discusses operational risk assessment in the data centre

…plus a wealth of features, insight and industry news.
