Interxion acquires data centre in Amsterdam

European colocation provider Interxion has announced the acquisition of a data centre business from leading Dutch cloud and managed services company Vancis Holding.
The deal, for which the financial details are yet to be revealed, will see Interxion add the new facility and key connectivity hub to its existing data centre footprint. The acquired centre, located at Amsterdam’s Science Park among a diverse community of connectivity providers, will serve customers across the Netherlands and Western Europe. The announcement further noted that the new location will add access to over 100 carriers and ISPs.
According to Interxion, around three-quarters of the facility’s 1,800sq.m of equipped space is already utilised, and has 2.5MW of available customer power. The company added that it was considering plans to expand this capacity.
Speaking on the announcement, David Ruberg, Interxion’s CEO commented that the expansion comes in response to the increasing demand for connectivity and cloud platforms from global businesses looking to drive value and meet changing customer requirements.
‘Interxion Science Park extends our campus into another dimension of Amsterdam’s connectivity community and enhances the value proposition of our Schiphol campus by doubling our carrier and ISP density in one of Europe’s primary colocation markets,’ he added.
In addition to the new Amsterdam site, Interxion has been making particular inroads in the UK data centre market. Earlier this year, it announced that it was expanding its London data centre campus with a third site, LON3. Scheduled to open in 2018, the new facility will see £30 million worth of investment and will add 1,800sq.m to the London campus.
Last year, the company also announced the development of additional capacity in France with a major expansion project in Marseille. The extension involves the construction of two new data centres in the heart of the Port area, to be named MRS2 and MRS3.
