Megaport and Oracle join forces for cloud connectivity project

Mon 24 Apr 2017

A brand new cloud connectivity collaboration has been announced between Megaport and Oracle

The joint project will see both companies coming together to provide ways for enterprises to make private, dedicated connectivity to Oracle Cloud.

Both companies have considerable experience and pedigree. Megaport provides scalable bandwidth for public and private cloud connections, metro ethernet, and Data Centre backhaul, plus Internet Exchange Services. Meanwhile, Oracle provides a fully integrated stack of cloud applications and platform services.

Megaport’s global network and API integration will thus team up with Oracle Network Cloud Service – FastConnect. This will allow customers to rapidly establish a connection between their on-premise data centre and Oracle cloud environments.

A key reason for this partnership is to give enterprise customers more choice when designing networks. The greater number of choices can not only address the constant change in workload requirements with more speed, customers will now also have a greater degree of flexibility.

Currently, there is access to the Megaport global network in over 20 key markets in locations in Europe, Asia Pacific and North America, with 150 points of presence.

Vincent English, Megaport CEO, explained its choice of partner, Oracle – the “major innovator of public cloud infrastructure, as evidenced by the announcement of their latest cloud offerings at Oracle OpenWorld 2016.”

Mr English said that the company’s loyal base of large enterprise customers, global reach, and focus on developing faster, better, and more cost effective services made it the ideal choice to enable with Megaport’s elastic interconnection services. He added that in the modern age of cloud-enabled IT, enterprises need a cloud provider that can power a full breadth of integrated services and provide end-to-end support with applications (SaaS), platform (PaaS) and compute and storage infrastructure (IaaS). “Oracle FastConnect can provide reliable and dedicated connectivity enabling faster deployment and migration of critical workloads in the cloud.”

Thomas Kurian, Oracle’s President of Product Development, said that the fastest growing part of its business was the Cloud. With that in mind, its customers require seamless connectivity from their data centres and networks to Oracle Cloud for their most demanding workloads and applications.

This relationship will help our customers leveraging the Oracle Cloud, execute on their business strategies by taking advantage of the Megaport platform for their high bandwidth connectivity needs.”
