Huawei FusionServer adds Simplivity OmniStack support

Thu 8 Dec 2016

Huawei is partnering with hyperconvergence provider Simplivity to bring support for the latter’s OmniStack technology to its own FusionServer RH2288H V3 offering.

The partnership brings flash-based speed and reliability across a unique resource pool spanning multiple sites. OmniStack offers storage and compute optimisation along with data mobility and management, integral data protection and autonomous disaster recovery capabilities.

The melding, according to the new releases from the two companies, seems aimed at the growing post-U.S. market – 50% of Massachusetts-based Simplivity’s sales are now outside North America.

Hyperconverged infrastructure seeks to automate the disparate tasks of server provisioning, along with the acquisition, installation and system-integration involved with networking units, as well as the configuration of storage – and long-term administration. However its longer-term value is in its potential to provide ongoing, transparent scalability.

The application-centric approach that Simplivity takes to DC integration systems – effectively offering ‘enterprise cloud in a box’ – removes the industry accent on containers and virtualisation to create a turnkey solution. Software-defined data centre infrastructure is intended to be resilient against hardware modifications and expansion.

The Huawei/Simplivity partnership on FusionServer emphasises the increasing downturn in support-based systems which rely on complex and bespoke middleware and middle-hardware configurations.

Simplivity’s OmniStack emerges from its OmniCube offerings, which concentrate on the optimisation of storage with the intent of improving deduplication protocols and data compression efficiency. The range features backup and recovery feature-sets over local and remote scenarios, as well as relatively remote synchronous replication.

President of Huawei’s IT Server Product Line, Qiu Long, commented on the partnership that it represents a “win-win for businesses needing hyperconverged infrastructure”. Doron Kempel, Simplivity’s chief executive officer said: “By combining Simplivity’s revolutionary hyperconverged technology with Huawei’s servers and strong global footprint, more customers will be able to realize the unique benefits that only Simplivity delivers…We know customers want choice when it comes to hyperconverged infrastructure, and we deliver our technology in combination with the world’s leading server provider—Huawei.”
