SAP announced the release of SAP BW/4HANA, a new data warehousing product that is available either for traditional on-premises deployment or through cloud services including Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud. Additional third-party cloud services are expected to follow.

SAP BW/4HANA is being touted as the next generation of data warehousing solutions, promising improved speed and agility as well as seamless cloud integration, ‘so companies can conveniently modernize their data warehousing environments and accelerate their digital journey into the cloud.’

The new product from SAP, in association with AWS, allows customers access to real-time analytics, improving their ability to take advantage of rapidly changing market conditions. In addition, the company promises lowered costs and improved performance and built-in connectivity to the SAP Digital Boardroom.

The new features present in SAP BW/4HANA include an upgraded interface and simplified data warehouse object modeling. Users can take advantage of a prebuilt data warehouse or build their own data environment in SQL.

As a next-gen data warehousing solution, BW/4HANA promises to improve speed and flexibility of data analysis by analyzing data regardless of where it resides, reducing the need for data movement and data duplication and freeing resources for running analytical processes and applications.

At the same time, SAP issued a new certification for Amazon Web Services, covering large-scale online analytical processing (OLAP) deployments for up to 7 nodes or 14 TB of RAM. AWS is testing larger deployments as well, up to 50 TB. Running BW/4HANA on AWS promises users a faster time to value, scale infrastructure resources, and higher levels of availability through using combined SAP and AWS resources.

Bernd Leukert, a member of the Executive Board for SAP SE said, “The digitization of business requires a modern approach to data management, data processing and analytics that can handle any data source and type in real time.”  He added, “With SAP BW/4HANA and our collaboration with AWS, the leading cloud infrastructure provider, we are providing customers with an easy-to-consume next-generation data warehouse platform that will further accelerate their journey toward becoming a live digital business.”

SAP BW/4HANA will be released to customers on September 7, with a live streaming launch event.
