Hadoop looks more promising than ever after Intel’s big Cloudera deal

Jordan Novet discusses the increasing potential of Hadoop software in IT infrastructure, particularly in the financial, healthcare, retail and start-up sectors. Although not as popular as rival Oracle, Novet suggests the technology is well on its way to competing with the giant – a prediction supported by the news of Cloudera’s latest fundings, including a ‘hefty investment from Intel.’
“I’d say every Fortune 5000 or Global 5000 enterprise already has a Hadoop cluster,” Tom Reilly, chief executive of Hadoop distribution vendor Cloudera, told VentureBeat last month.
And that was before news hit about Cloudera’s monstrous $900 million funding round, which included a hefty investment from Intel.
With deals like that, Hadoop is becoming more visible.”
