Public sector enjoying half-price IT thanks to G-Cloud

Hannah Breeze looks at the progress of the government’s tech initiative G-Cloud. Since the introduction of the scheme, the public sector has seen its IT bills cut by a least 50% and has experienced greater flexibility and efficiency. However, she argues that more still needs to be done to raise the profile of the G- Cloud framework amongst cloud buyers – a challenge which Tony Singleton, the government’s digital commercial programme director, is promising to tackle over the coming months.

“”G-Cloud is about more than sales; it is about transforming the way the public sector buys cloud-based services, and it is one of the frameworks supporting a wider business IT transformation.”

But Singleton admitted that more needed to be done.

G-Cloud came under fire last year after research found the majority of cloud buyers did not even know what the framework was, and it since promised to pull up its socks as a result.”
