Google has announced plans to acquire Californian-based software firm CloudSimple for an undisclosed fee, as it steps up efforts to win the business of hybrid-cloud hungry enterprises.

CloudSimple’s solutions help companies with cloud migration, disaster recovery and virtual desktop services. The purchase will help Google as it seeks to make ground on cloud rivals, Microsoft Azure and AWS, by simplifying migration to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Oracle and VMware have announced a new partnership that will see Oracle’s public cloud integrate with VMware’s data centre infrastructure.

The announcement, made at the company’s annual OpenWorld user conference in San Fransisco, is the latest in a raft of deals VMware has struck with public cloud providers as it seeks to solidify its infrastructure, which is ubiquitous in data centres, as a lynchpin for hybrid cloud environments.

VMware has announced it has bought software companies Pivotal and Carbon Black in two deals valued at $4.8 billion as it seeks to broaden its enterprise services portfolio.

After the announcement, Pivotal shares rose 9 percent in extended trading, while those of Carbon Black were up nearly 6 percent. VMware shares fell 7 percent and Dell shares shed 3 percent.

While Pivotal has previously boasted that the majority of Fortune 500 companies use its services, including American and Southwest and Boeing, the company has laboured since its IPO in April 2018 and reported $31.7 million losses in its last financial quarter.
