Telefonica sells data centres in exchange for stake in hosting provider

Telefonica has announced the sale of four data centres to Asterion Partners, in exchange for 20% ownership of Nabiax, Asterion’s colocation and hosting arm. The data centres, two located in Spain and two in Chile, will continue to be operated by Telefonica, allowing them to retain their customers and value proposition while providing the company a ‘seat at the table’ with Nabiax.

Telefónica flogs four data centres to Asterion child company

Telefónica is cashing in on four more data centres, selling the facilities to same company set up by investment management firm Asterion to manage its 2019 fire-sale.

The European telecommunications giant will fetch around €100 million for the four data centres, writes El Economista, which first broke the news.


Telefonica flogs 30,000 masts to American Tower in €7.7 billion deal

Spanish telecom giant Telefonica is selling off its cell tower portfolio to American Tower in a €7.7 billion euro deal. American Tower will take ownership of the 30,700 tower sites in Spain, Germany, Brazil, Peru, Chile and Argentina held by Telefonica unit Telxius Telecom.


Vodafone completes European roll-out of VMware telco cloud

Vodafone Group has finished rolling out its VMware-powered cloud-based network across 21 of its markets and all of its European businesses.

The consolidated network architecture means Vodafone can design, build and test next-generation network functions more securely and around 40 percent more quickly, the companies said.
