Echelon Data Centres and SSE Renewables to develop shared grid infrastructure

Echelon is teaming up with renewables developer SSE Renewables on an onshore substation that will connect the Irish operator’s upcoming Arklow data centre to Ireland’s first large-scale offshore wind farm.

Subject to planning approval, SSE Renewables will develop and construct the 220kV substation on behalf of both developers for shared use by Echelon’s 100MW DUB20 facility and Arklow Bank, SSE’s planned 520MW offshore wind farm.

Google data centres to be 100% powered by carbon-free energy by 2030

Google said it has eliminated its entire carbon legacy and has pledged to operate completely on carbon-free energy by 2030.

In what the company called its carbon-free commitment, chief executive Sundar Pichai said the tech giant wiped out all its operational emissions from before it became carbon neutral in 2007 through the purchase of “high-quality carbon offsets”.
