Reliance Jio to build two subsea cables

Reliance Jio, Indian telecoms provider, has announced that it will construct two new submarine cables originating in Mumbai. The first, known as the India-Asia Express (IAX) will run east from Mumbai and terminate in Singapore. Another will run west from Mumbai and terminate in Savona, Italy; and will be referred to as the India-Europe Express (IEX).


Interxion’s MRS2 Marseille data centre selected as European terminus for PEACE subsea cable

A new 15,000km subsea cable system providing low latency connection from China into Europe and Africa will land at a data centre Marseille, the telco behind the route has announced.

Hong Kong’s PCCW said the upcoming PEACE cable will use Interxion’s MRS2 data centre as its gateway into Europe, locating termination and interconnection equipment on the provider’s premises instead of connecting to a dedicated landing station.


Kao Data HPC data centre campus hooks up to Vorboss specialist low-latency network

UK-based HPC colocation developer and operator Kao Data has partnered with Vorboss to become a Point-of-Presence (POP) for its high-capacity network. Clients at Kao Data’s Harlow campus can now tap into Vorboss’ network and benefit from direct links from London’s financial hubs to the UK Innovation Corridor and into all major European metropolitan cities.


Minister casts doubt on 2025 gigabit broadband target

Doubts over the Government’s ambitious pledge on gigabit-capable broadband deepened on Tuesday after the minister responsible for its roll-out failed to say how confident he felt about making the 2025 target.

Full-fibre and gigabit-capable broadband to every home and business across the UK by 2025 was a key Conservative manifesto pledge in the 2019 general election. It brought the goal forward by eight years.
