This week, Google announced that they would begin exploring the use of geothermal energy to provide power for data centres in Nevada, through a partnership with clean energy startup Fervo. The companies plan to use AI applications to overcome the challenges that have held back geothermal use till now – and they expect that they will begin adding power to the local grid by 2022.
Plans to develop the UK’s first hydrogen transport hub have been given a £3 million funding boost.
The Department for Transport said the money will support the creation of facilities in the Tees Valley region of north-east England to research and trial the use of hydrogen as a fuel across all transport modes.
