Vodafone and Google announce partnership focused on AI, cloud, and cybersecurity

Vodafone and Google have announced an extensive ten-year partnership expansion, focusing on AI-powered services, devices, and enhanced TV experiences for millions of Vodafone users across Europe and Africa.

This collaboration, valued in excess of a billion dollars, uses Google Cloud and Google’s generative AI (gen AI) Gemini models to accelerate digital transformation for both consumers and businesses.

The deal extends across 15 countries, with Vodafone using Google’s fixed and mobile connectivity services to enhance productivity. Google will provide advanced AI-powered Pixel devices, Android products, and next-generation services to Vodafone’s wide user base.

“Our expanded partnership with Vodafone will help bring our most advanced AI products and services, including our Gemini models, to more people across Europe and Africa,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO at Google and Alphabet.

Driving AI-Powered Consumer Experiences

As part of the expanded partnership, Vodafone will broaden its access to Google’s AI-driven Pixel devices, supported by Vodafone’s 5G network, while continuing its promotion of the Android ecosystem. The companies plan to roll out new generative AI features for Vodafone TV, powered by Google Cloud’s gen AI technology. Vodafone TV users can expect personalised content searches and improved recommendations, with future plans for advertising integration using Google Ad Manager.

Using these services, our customers can discover new ways to learn, create and communicate, as well as consume TV, on a scale we haven’t seen before,” said Margherita Della Valle, CEO at Vodafone Group CEO.

Future Expansion in AI, Cloud, and Cybersecurity

By 2025, Vodafone plans to offer Google One AI Premium subscription plans, including Gemini Advanced, in select territories. Vodafone will also build on its partnership with Google Cloud, utilising its Vertex AI platform to accelerate innovation and launch new services more efficiently. Vodafone will also develop a new cloud-native cybersecurity service for business customers, using Google Cloud’s Security Operations platform to enhance cyber protection.

Transforming Digital Services and Security

Vodafone has already worked closely with Google Cloud, building a data repository to house AI and analytics services. Moving forward, the expanded use of Vertex AI will allow Vodafone to scale its machine learning models and deliver innovative services faster across its territories. The companies also plan to promote universal industry standards, including responsible AI development and enhanced cybersecurity measures, to drive improvements across multiple sectors.
