Virtus Data Centres has revealed plans for a cutting-edge data centre campus in Saunderton, Buckinghamshire.

This 75MW AI-ready campus, located on a 50-acre freehold plot, is set to address the growing demands for high-capacity data infrastructure driven by cloud and AI applications.

Strategic Expansion to Meet AI and Cloud Demands

Scheduled for construction in Q4 2024, with an operational target of Q2 2026, the campus will consist of four data centres.

This development is a strategic move to cater to the escalating need for robust data infrastructure, underscored by the National Grid contract for 120MVA that the campus has secured.

Neil Cresswell, CEO of Virtus, highlighted the significance of this expansion: “The acquisition of this new 50-acre campus is a significant step in VIRTUS’ strategic growth plans … We are dedicated to being at the forefront of supporting businesses on their digital transformation journeys,” he stated.

Sustainability and Community Development

The campus will reportedly operate on 100% renewable energy, adhering to VIRTUS’ zero-waste-to-landfill principle and aiming for LEED Gold accreditation.

Sustainable practices such as rainwater harvesting and exploration of waste heat use for adjacent farming are key features of the project. Furthermore, Virtus has pledged an annual carbon offset payment to the local authority for ten years, supporting local environmental projects.

This new development promises to create skilled jobs, invest in the community, improve local infrastructure, and bring training opportunities to the local area.
