UK’s Arqit and Saudi Arabia’s DETASAD forge cybersecurity partnership

Tue 14 Nov 2023

UK-based quantum-safe encryption provider Arqit Quantum and Saudi Arabian telecommunications solutions provider DETASAD have announced a partnership launching Arqit’s Sovereign Symmetric Key Agreement Platform in Saudi Arabia.

DETASAD will launch the platform with a vision to enhance cybersecurity in the region.

The companies will build a fully data-sovereign stack that integrates Arqit’s Symmetric Key Agreement solution. The technology is designed to operate within existing networks, offering protection against current and future encryption attacks, including those from quantum computers.

“From this month, customers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and across the region will be able to benefit from enhanced security and resilience against cyberattacks. With the increasing threat and proliferation of connected devices, Arqit’s crypto agile technology offers governments and enterprises the ability to immediately benefit from higher standards of network data and information assurance, sustainable into the quantum era,” said David Williams, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Arqit.

Under this alliance, DETASAD and Arqit plan to integrate Arqit’s technology into DETASAD’s MadeinSaudi Smart Capacity Management. This integration will deliver advanced, locally-developed cybersecurity solutions to every endpoint, whether satellite or any other platform within the DETASAD edge cloud.

Felix Wass, President and CEO of DETASAD, said: “We are excited to embark on this transformative journey with Arqit. Our partnership is more than just a technological alliance – we are setting out to revolutionise with a fully data-sovereign Symmetric Key Agreement Platform. We are not only bringing technology to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, but will complement it and build a MadeInSaudi portfolio for the global markets.”

This partnership is also set to drive the development of Saudi-specific solutions and pioneer a local R&D partnership. It aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the UK Government’s National Cyber Strategy, aiming to translate local solutions into products for both the Saudi and global markets.

Juliette Wilcox, the UK Government’s Cyber Security Ambassador, said: “I am delighted to welcome this important announcement. Companies such as Arqit are leading the way in demonstrating how the UK’s cyber expertise can enhance cyber capabilities across Saudi Arabia, helping to further strengthen security across the Kingdom’s cyberspace.”

The partnership announcement was made at the British Embassy in Riyadh.
