MongoDB has announced the launch of MongoDB AMP, an AI-powered Application Modernization Platform that helps enterprises quickly transform legacy applications into modern, scalable services.
MongoDB AMP helps customers modernise through the fusion of an AI-powered software platform, a proven delivery framework, and experienced AMP delivery engineers who oversee and guide the implementation process.
As AMP’s foundation, MongoDB gives customers the flexibility of the document model and an architecture built for continuous change. By combining AMP tooling with MongoDB’s framework, customers have seen tasks like code transformation sped up by 10x or more, with overall modernisation projects sped up 2–3 times.
Legacy Systems Are Holding Innovation Back
Businesses across industries often struggle with legacy applications that are essential for their operations. These applications can be expensive to maintain and challenging to adjust for modern use cases, such as generative AI. Built on outdated technology and rigid data structures, these complex legacy systems can stifle innovation and present security and compliance risks.
According to the Consortium for Information & Software Quality, the cost of technical debt in the US—as measured by “poor software quality,” software failures, lost developer time, and systems maintenance—has been estimated at almost $4 trillion (£2.9 trillion).
Rachel Stephens, Research Director at industry analyst firm RedMonk, said enterprises are increasingly grappling with the burden of complex legacy applications. She said these are constrained by rigid data foundations and outdated architectures that stifle innovation.

AMP empowers organisations to go beyond incremental ‘lift and shift’ migrations, instead focusing on full-stack transformation from the data up,” added Stephens.
MongoDB noted that the traditional method of application modernisation often requires costly multi-year consulting engagements, which can be both manual and resource-intensive. This approach can lead to delays in achieving results, ultimately affecting time-to-market. Additionally, some modernisation efforts focus merely on transferring legacy applications from one relational database to another, known as a “lift and shift” migration, rather than transitioning to a more flexible and modern database solution.

Transforming App Delivery in Regulated Sectors
The launch of MongoDB AMP represents the culmination of over two years of collaboration with some of MongoDB’s most advanced customers. Notably, AMP has achieved modernisation success within highly regulated industries. For example, Bendigo Bank in Australia reduced the development time needed to migrate a core banking application from a legacy relational database to MongoDB Atlas by 90%. Additionally, with the help of AI tooling, the bank was able to decrease the time spent running application test cases from more than 80 hours to just five minutes.
Swiss private bank, Lombard Odier, successfully migrated key applications from its SQL database to MongoDB. This partnership resulted in migrating code up to 60 times faster and reducing regression testing time from three days to three hours, freeing developers to focus on innovation.
More recently, MongoDB worked with IntellectAI, one of the world’s largest enterprise fintech companies, to modernise critical components of its Wealth Management platform. Intellect’s project with MongoDB led to improved performance and reduced development cycle times, and its platform is now better positioned to onboard clients, provide richer customer insights, and to unlock generative AI use cases across the firm.
