Mattermost launches “Bring-Your-Own-LLM” for AI-enhanced workflows

Mon 10 Jun 2024

A provider of secure, self-hosted collaboration platforms for critical infrastructure, Mattermost, has introduced Mattermost Copilot. This artificial intelligence (AI) solution is tailored for government, defense, and essential service organisations with rigorous security and compliance requirements.

Mattermost Copilot enables users to integrate large language model (LLM) capabilities compatible with OpenAI API standards into their Mattermost environment. This integration allows for actionable insights from collaboration data, including chats, calls, automation, and third-party tools, while ensuring that data remains within the network.

CEO and Founder at Mattermost, Ian Tien, said defence, government, and critical infrastructure enterprises have long been under served by ‘generations of incompatible, one-off communications systems that cost billions in lost productivity annually’.

“Applying AI to collaboration in these mission-critical environments enables urgently needed transformation and acceleration. We are excited to announce powerful new capabilities to support this journey while enabling our customers to maintain full control of data and systems,” said Tien.

Mattermost said the its Copilot comes at a time when enterprises are cautious about adopting generative AI technology due to potential cybersecurity threats. A recent study from Cisco highlighted 69% of enterprises are concerned about the risk of disclosing sensitive information to competitors, adversaries, or the public.

Mattermost Copilot addresses these concerns by offering flexible AI deployment capabilities that enhance workflows, increase efficiency, and enable teams to move faster without compromising data security.

Key benefits of Mattermost Copilot include complete data sovereignty, the acceleration of workflows with actionable insights, and access to customise workflows.

Mattermost Copilot is compatible with LLMs, like ChatGPT and Anthropic, providing organisations with the flexibility of external processing or the security of self-hosted LLMs. This ensures compliance with data privacy regulations, including GDPR under Schrems II.

The latest Mattermost platform release includes flexible AI backend choices, multi-LLM support, AI call summaries, and seamless integration.
