Maincubes secures 10-year pure solar power for FRA03 data centre

Maincubes (stylised as maincubes) has entered into a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Stadtwerke Göttingen AG, securing 34 megawatts peak (MWp) of pure solar power for its FRA03 data centre based in Frankfurt, Germany.

Albrecht Kraas, CTO at Maincubes, highlighted the importance of this agreement: “This first PPA contract is a milestone that we are proud of. We are setting the framework for future sustainability standards and further optimising an environmentally friendly energy supply for our data centres.”

A Partnership Rooted in Sustainability

Choosing Stadtwerke Göttingen for this PPA was a strategic decision by Maincubes, reflecting a shared commitment to reliability, flexibility, and environmental responsibility.

This partnership ensures that FRA03 will operate on pure solar power, contributing significantly to the reduction of carbon emissions and aligning with broader climate goals.

Jochen Ritter, Head of Energy Services and Heating at Stadtwerke Göttingen AG, said: “The conclusion of the PPA agreement with maincubes gives Stadtwerke Göttingen AG the economic security for further major investments in renewable energies to achieve climate targets in the Göttingen region.”

Maincubes’ sustainability strategy extends beyond this PPA, incorporating its Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) registration and an agile digital infrastructure that meets ESG requirements.

This strategy is part of a broader effort to leverage renewable resources across maincubes’ operations, including hydropower in the Netherlands and wind turbines in India, as well as active participation in the Open Compute Foundation (OCP) to promote innovation and sustainability in data centre products and practices.
