Lunar Digital has commenced 2024 with a significant milestone, securing a 15-year lease on Reynolds House with Capitaland Ascendas REIT.
This move follows a year-long effort and sees Lunar Digital taking over the site previously occupied by Equinix.
Enhancing Data Centre Capabilities for High-Density Computing
Located in the vibrant Manchester Science Park, Lunar Digital is set to refurbish its Lunar 1 and 2 data centre facilities. These enhancements are designed to cater to high-performance computing (HPC) requirements and retail colocation opportunities, strengthening Manchester’s position as a key IT infrastructure hub and a magnet for top talent.
The refurbishment, starting on 3rd January, includes:
- Full renovations of C5 & C6 data halls to optimise power and cooling for large-scale client deployments
- New cooling solutions throughout the facility to support increasing HPC and AI-driven colocation demands
- Implementation of an efficient UPS system in various data halls
- Installation of underfloor baffling and cold/hot aisle containment systems
Mark Sedgley, Chief Commercial Officer at Lunar Digital, said: “Modernising our data centres will enable us to deliver highly efficient colocation … With the adoption of AI and machine learning that is transforming the way we live our lives, we are also dedicating our approach to enabling HPC solutions, a fast-growing space with limited options currently in Manchester.”
In line with its commitment to sustainability, Lunar Digital is implementing various measures, including the installation of blanking panels, to enhance efficiency.
Sedgley added: “Our obligation to invest ethically into improving the efficiency of our data centres and advancing our strategy to become not only net zero but carbon positive is very close to our heart.”
