Intel and Cadence partner to enhance system-on-chip designs

Press Release by Cadence Wed 21 Feb 2024

Intel Foundry Services and Cadence Design Systems have entered into a multi-year strategic agreement to enhance system-on-chip (SoC) designs using Intel’s advanced process technologies.

This collaboration aims to deliver optimised SoCs for AI, high-performance computing (HPC), and premium mobile markets, leveraging Intel’s RibbonFET on Intel 18A and beyond.

Anirudh Devgan, President and CEO at Cadence, said: “We furthered our partnership with Intel Foundry Services through a significant strategic multi-year agreement to provide design software and leading IP at multiple Intel advanced nodes, thereby advancing Intel’s IDM 2.0 strategy and accelerating mutual customer success.”

Joint Development for Advanced SoC Technologies

The partnership focuses on the joint development of customised intellectual property (IP), design flows, and techniques tailored for Intel’s most advanced technologies.

This collaboration is expected to empower customers to accelerate their SoC projects, while optimising critical aspects such as performance, power, and efficiency.

Stuart Pann, Intel Senior Vice President and General Manager of Intel Foundry Services, highlighted the importance of the partnership in growing the IP ecosystem.

“We will leverage Cadence’s world-class portfolio of leading IP and advanced design solutions to enable our customers to deliver high-volume, high-performance and power-efficient SoCs on Intel’s leading-edge process technologies,” said Pann.

This agreement is pivotal in addressing the demands of fast-growing market segments, such as AI/ML and premium mobile computing, which require the latest in IP standards to leverage advanced packaging and silicon process technologies.

Cadence’s implementations of cutting-edge standards aim to enable scalable, high-performance designs that hasten time to market for Intel Foundry Services’ most advanced silicon technologies and 3D-IC packaging capabilities.

This partnership underscores Intel’s commitment to building a world-class foundry business as part of its IDM 2.0 strategy. It also complements Intel’s efforts in expanding the IP ecosystem for its foundry customers, in collaboration with other industry-leading IP providers.
