Capgemini and UK partner to enhance defence through digital innovation

Thu 8 Aug 2024

Capgemini and the UK’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) have announced a new three-year agreement designed to enhance Dstl’s digital strategy.

This collaboration aims to support vital science and technology projects critical to UK defence and national security.

Dstl, an executive agency of the Ministry of Defence (MOD), is known for its expertise in delivering cutting-edge science and technology solutions for the UK and its allies. Under this agreement, Capgemini will provide a significant improvement in end-user experience, service delivery, and responsiveness for Dstl.

The partnership is structured around key principles of agility, reliability, and security, with a focus on expanding Dstl’s science and technology capabilities. The collaboration will also help ensure these solutions can be seamlessly managed by industry and academic partners.

“The new contract will provide better support for the many demands of our Science and Technology projects and deliver better ‘value for money’ outcomes. Our collaboration with Capgemini will help Dstl to deliver the high impact science and technology projects that secure the future needs of UK defence and national security,” said David English, Chief Operating Officer at Capgemini.

This agreement builds on Dstl’s existing partnership with Cambridge Consultants, a division of Capgemini focused on deep technology, further aligning with Dstl’s vision of delivering impactful science and technology advancements.

“Our proposed solution will help to drive greater interoperability with wider UK Defence and Security Organisations, leveraging our experience in this area across government and beyond, so that services can be re-used where possible, with Dstl benefitting from access to best practice solutions and economies of scale,” said Matt Howell, Head of Public Sector at Capgemini in the UK.

Capgemini’s expertise in digital transformation will play a pivotal role in driving Dstl’s vision forward. The focus will be on improving interoperability with other UK Defence and Security Organisations, to help guarantee services can be reused and optimised across the board. As a result, Dstl will benefit from access to best practice solutions and economies of scale, further strengthening its position as a leader in defence and security innovation.

This partnership aims to support the UK’s ongoing efforts in defence and security, with Capgemini’s solutions expected to contribute to the nation’s scientific and technological advancements.
