Wilton International has secured outline planning consent from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council for a significant data centre and communications campus in Teesside, North East England. The data centre will have 48MW of capacity.
The 32-acre site is set to consist of 150,000sqm of data centre space in multiple data halls, communications buildings, associated infrastructure and office building.
The campus, situated within the Teesside Freeport Zone, has access to national grid connectivity, Wilton International’s own ‘private wire’ power network, estate resilience, and on-campus generation facilities. There are also a number of nearby major developments in water, hydrogen, and carbon capture.
Wilton Data Centre can achieve connectivity to London in ~4 milliseconds, Manchester in ~2 milliseconds, Dublin in ~6 milliseconds, and Esbjerg in Denmark ~7 milliseconds.
Stephen Timmons, Managing Director of Wilton Data Centre, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning consent. This data centre development has the potential to bring many benefits to the businesses and residents of Teesside, and indeed the wider Northeast of England.”
Construction of the data centre campus will take several years, and will initially create up to 250 construction jobs, with a completed data centre facility allowing for the creation of additional highly skilled jobs within the energy infrastructure and communications industries.
