VIRTUS Data Centres has appointed Adam Eaton as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately, as the company continues to expand its portfolio of data centres across the UK and Europe.
Eaton succeeds Thomas Ee, Group Chief Operating Officer of parent company ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), who had been serving as interim CEO at VIRTUS for the past nine months. Ee will continue in his group role, having overseen the business during a period of transition.
Leadership Change Amid Continued Expansion
VIRTUS, a pure-play data centre owner and operator, has grown rapidly over the past decade, developing high-efficiency facilities to support cloud, enterprise and digital services demand. The company said Eaton’s appointment reflects its intention to maintain momentum as capacity requirements increase and sustainability expectations intensify across the sector.
Bruno Lopez, President and Group CEO of STT GDC and Chairman of VIRTUS Data Centres, said Eaton brings experience in scaling complex operations:
“His insight and proven ability to scale complex operations make him the ideal leader for the business as VIRTUS continues to grow its footprint and strengthen its position as one of Europe’s leading data centre operators. We look forward to this new chapter of leveraging Adam’s knowledge, expertise and stakeholder management skills for further growth across the business,” said Lopez.
Experience Across European Data Centre Markets
Eaton brings more than 20 years’ experience across the data centre, cloud and managed services sectors. Most recently, he served as Executive Group Director for Europe at Global Switch, where he led operations across the FLAPM markets – Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris and Madrid – and drove transformation initiatives aimed at improving performance and scale.
Speaking on his appointment, Eaton said:
Adam Eaton said: “I first met the VIRTUS team over 15 years ago. Since then, I’ve watched the company evolve into one of Europe’s leading data centre operators. Helping VIRTUS scale and support its next phase of growth is an exciting opportunity. I’m privileged to build on the foundations laid by the existing team, embracing one of the most exciting leadership roles in the industry today.”
Strategic Context
The leadership change comes as European data centre operators face rising demand from cloud and AI workloads, alongside tighter constraints around power availability, sustainability targets and planning approvals. VIRTUS said it remains focused on delivering energy-efficient infrastructure to support the growth of the digital economy, backed by its shareholders.
