Partnership brings TIER classification to Vertiv prefabricated data centre units
Data centre infrastructure specialists Vertiv have announced a partnership with Uptime Institute to deliver TIER-ready prefabricated modular data centres.
The partnership will see Vertiv sell Uptime Institute Tier Certification of Constructed Facilities (TCCF) services with Vertiv TIER-Ready Modular Units, allowing the systems to quickly earn TCCF certification once deployed.
The prefabricated data centres are now available in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), with the aim to extend the program globally in 2020.
The TIER Standard of Topology is the industry standard for data centre reliability and resiliency, ensuring facilities operate in a definable and predictable fashion under a wide-range of operating conditions, including complete utility power failure.
Under the agreement, certain prefabricated models will be reviewed by Uptime Institute during development to ensure they meet the requirements of the TIER Standard of Topology.
To get things started, Vertiv has completed Uptime Institute’s TIER-Ready III design review for its SmartMod infrastructure, for up to 10 racks and 80kW of IT load.
With prefabricated modular infrastructure, data centre whitespace can be deployed with significantly less on-site installation than required with traditional facilities.
Vertiv said these agile deployments are gaining significant traction in developing economies as a way to quickly build out new capacity at the edge without the restrictions of a traditional construction process.
According to industry analysts 451 Research, the prefabricated modular data centre will grow at a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.4 percent through 2021 to reach $4.4bn.
“This agreement with Uptime Institute ensures that facilities that utilize Vertiv’s PFM data centres which carry Uptime Institute’ TIER-Ready designation are not only agile and efficient to deploy but also demonstrably resilient and robust”, said Viktor Petik, vice president of Integrated Modular Solutions, Vertiv.
“Vertiv and its partners can now support customers to build-out new, highly reliable and available capacity using our Uptime Institute TIER-Ready III designated SmartMod system. Once installed, these solutions can quickly and easily achieve full TIER Certification of Constructed Facility”.
