Vast majority of Indian companies are victims of cyber attacks

Written by Tue 28 Sep 2021

A new report published by security solutions provider Barracuda finds that 87% of Indian companies have fallen victim to cyber security attacks in the past year. The shift to home-working contributed to this high figure, as the report also found those firms that were predominately home-working had higher rates of security breaches.

“While organisations are adapting to the hybrid approach thinking about both working from anywhere and application hosting, they continue to experience a high level of network breaches and facing ongoing connectivity and security challenges,” said Murali Urs, Country Manager at Barracuda Networks India, in a statement.

“However, realising that moving to SaaS applications and the public Cloud can improve both the user experience and security, they have started embracing new SASE technologies,” Urs added.

Of all organisations surveyed in India, 79% reported being the victim of at least one ransomware attack. This latest research by Barracuda builds on their previous work that found 81% of Indian companies saw their network being successfully breached as a direct result of an application vulnerability. While detecting security vulnerabilities and securing APIs are two major challenges for Indian firms, 59% of firms report software supply chain attacks as their top application security challenges.

With the growth of people working from home, applications have proven to be an effective way to enable staff to use the tech tools they need to work most effectively. Yet, businesses need to secure their network as much as possible by patching vulnerabilities but also provide training to home-workers so they are able to better navigate this new technological normal and not fall victim to threats.
