Databarracks, a leader in data recovery services, has acquired backup expert 4sl for an undisclosed amount

Databarracks has announced the acquisition of 4sl, making the company the largest provider of Commvault managed services in the UK. The acquisition brings Databarracks total employee count to 75, two-thirds of whom are data protection experts.

Databarracks provides business continuity as a service (BCaaS), along with Disaster Recovery (DRaaS), Backup (BaaS), and Public Cloud Services. The acquisition of 4sl will strengthen the Backup as a Service (BaaS) offering, while creating more opportunities to build resilient operations for current and future customers.

The events of the last year have made business continuity a greater concern among businesses of all sizes, across all industries. In a recent survey, more than half of the respondents said that they had experienced a break in business continuity that lasted over 8 hours, costing businesses approximately $100K per day.

“In 2020, Business Continuity and IT Resilience were thrust into the spotlight,” noted Peter Grocutt, Managing Director of Databarracks. And with the expectation of continued threats to network security, “Backup and IT Disaster Recovery have never been more important.”

Databarracks hosts data in ultra-secure data centres that they refer to as ‘The Bunker.’ The Bunker is made up of ex-military compounds built to withstand nuclear attack, which have been reconfigured to provide secure data services. According to the Databarracks website, The Bunker is ISO 27001 and PCI compliant; is immune to threats of flood, explosives, EMP, or eavesdropping; and has dual uninterruptible power supplies and 3 months worth of fuel on site. The Bunker is also located 30 metres underground, with 24/7 physical security and three-metre thick walls.

4sl is a London-based company offering DRaaS, BaaS and Public Cloud Services, specializing in compliance for highly regulated industries such as banking and finance. 4sl helps companies manage both compliance and latency by providing DRaaS and BaaS both in the public cloud and/or secondary on-site DRaaS systems.

The acquisition of 4sl allows Databarracks to expand capabilities for those customers that have migrated services to the public cloud.

“We are now the largest Public Cloud Backup and Disaster Recovery specialist in the UK,” said Mr. Grocutt. “With 4sl, we are adding enterprise capability and the ability to transform legacy tape environments. Together we are offering modern data protection to organisations in the UK and around the world.
