Micro data centre touted for retail, manufacturing, automotive and telco environments

Schneider Electric and Cisco have unveiled a wall-mounted micro data centre for edge environments.

Announced at Cisco Live in Barcelona, the micro data centre is housed in Schneider’s 6U compact wall mount, which allows large edge servers, networking equipment and a UPS to be safely fixed to a wall. Schneider claimed the mount is 60 percent less intrusive than traditional wall mount enclosures.

The new edge solution comes pre-integrated with Cisco’s HyperFlex hyperconverged tech and is fully compatible with Schneider’s next-generation DCIM EcoStruxure IT, enabling rapid deployment and low-touch management across remote locations.

“Cisco and Schneider Electric have been Alliance Partners for more than 15 years,” said Rob McKernan, senior vice president, Secure Power Europe.

“As part of that collaboration, we continue to innovate and build on the integration capabilities between our companies. This helps partners to deliver best-in-class, pre-integrated systems, safe in the knowledge that the solution will work predictably, as planned from the minute it is operational. At the edge, reliability is essential, and with interoperability between EcoStruxure and Cisco Intersight, partners can manage multiple edge sites on behalf of their customers, whilst generating new service revenues.”

At Cisco Live this week, the companies will showcase the system’s physical and cyber security features, including a high-performance image recognition application and Device Security Vulnerability Assessment, which is now available in EcoStruxure IT Expert.

The micro data centre will become commercially available later this year.
