Pure DC has entered the final major build phase of its £1 billion ($1.3 billion) plus LON01 data centre campus at Brent Cross in north London, with piling underway for the West Shell of its 70MW LON01B2 facility.
General contractor Glencar has commenced piling works on the development, which will add more than 23,000sqm and take total campus capacity to 90MW. Completion is scheduled for the second quarter of 2029.
Pure DC said LON01B2 would deliver a next-generation, closed-loop, liquid-cooled data centre suited to high-density AI inference and cloud workloads.
“Piling commencement represents an important milestone in the continued development of our Brent Cross campus,” said Dan Priest, Campus Delivery Director at Pure DC.
“LON01B2 is a major part of our investment in London’s digital infrastructure, and it is encouraging to see the final stage of construction now progressing on site.”
For Glencar, the work marks the transition into the structural phase of the programme.
Roy Jones, Managing Director of London and The South at Glencar, said delivering a project of this scale within a live and highly constrained data centre campus required detailed planning and coordination.
“Seeing piling get underway marks the transition into the structural phase of the programme,” he said.
“Our teams have worked closely with Pure DC and the wider project team to prepare for this phase, and we look forward to building on this momentum as the structure begins to take shape.”
Living Wall Forms Part of Plans
Pure DC has also incorporated environmental measures into the development.
On completion of B2, more than 750,000 plants will wrap around the facility to create what the company described as one of the world’s largest living walls.
Pure DC said the planting would help reduce noise and air pollution while encouraging biodiversity among insects and birds next to Brent Reservoir’s Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Brent Cross Supports Pure DC’s Expansion
The Brent Cross milestone follows other major investments by Pure DC in Europe.
In July, the company secured a £1.1 billion ($1.4 billion) debt facility for its fully leased AI data centre campus in Finland.
Pure DC has also expanded in France alongside SEGRO, with the companies progressing a 48MW hyperscale data centre in Paris.
The projects add to Pure DC’s wider expansion as it develops capacity for AI and cloud infrastructure across European markets.
