Leader in UK edge infrastructure, Pulsant, has announced the acquisition of two data centres from SCC. These data centres, located in Birmingham and Fareham, will bring Pulsant’s total number of UK data centres to 14 and is a part of the company’s growth strategy and focus on long-term stability.

The Birmingham data centre has a power capacity of 2MW with 25,000 sq ft of white space, while the Fareham location has a slightly higher capacity of 3MW. The deal includes the facilities, facilities teams, and colocation clients.

“With the addition of two new data centres, we have expanded our UK coverage, strengthening our presence near key economic hubs that have traditionally been underserved in terms of digital infrastructure,” said Rob Coupland, CEO at Pulsant.

Coupland added this will enable more businesses to benefit from Pulsant’s unique network of data centres and platformEDGE to “reach new markets and grow  organisations.”

platformEDGE is Pulsant’s integrated connectivity solution, providing customers with access to low-latency, distributed edge computing across the entire UK. This helps customers track and control cloud costs, connect to the Pulsant network and Pulsant partners, as well as vendor management and support services.

Why SCC Chose Pulsant for the Future of Its Data Centres

James Rigby, SCC CEO spoke about the reasons that Pulsant was the right choice from SCC’s perspective.

“SCC has been carefully reviewing options for the future of our data centres for some time. A clear priority was to find a specialist partner that will continue to invest in and operated these facilities for the long term and with whom we can build a strategic relationship for the provision of these services to our clients,” said Rigby.

Rigby added the firm’s Pulsant’s expertise and commitment to growing its UK data centre footprint made them the ideal choice.

Data centre employees in engineering and operations will be transferred to Pulsant when the acquisition is finalised later this month.

In a recent interview Pulsant CTO Mike Hoy spoke about the company’s growth strategy.

“Our investors are keen to continue strengthening our platform. We have solid UK coverage, but there are areas where we’d like to expand,” said Hoy.

Hoy added with shareholder support, Pulsant hopes to add new data centre locations in the future.
