ORCA Computing has announced PT-2, the latest addition to its PT Series of photonic quantum systems.
This new system builds on the foundation established by the PT-1, which has successfully deployed seven on-premises systems.
The PT-2 is designed to offer a commercially viable solution that integrates with high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructures. It features quantum-enhanced machine learning capabilities aligned with the NVIDIA CUDA-Q development platform, enabling integration with generative AI models. This development aims to assist organisations in embedding quantum computing into their AI and optimisation workflows more effectively.
ORCA Computing said it will deploy a testbed for the UK National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) as part of its commitment to advancing quantum technology. This testbed will incorporate integrated GPU processing to explore various quantum approaches and use cases.
This testbed aims to facilitate the development and testing of photonic quantum architectures, focusing on machine learning through hybrid quantum/classical neural networks and photonic quantum processors.
Senior Vice President of Research and Chief Analyst for Quantum Computing at Hyperion Research, Bob Sorensen, said ‘Generative AI is approaching a point of unsustainability’.
“ORCA’s PT-2 offers a quantum-enhanced approach that addresses challenges such as power consumption and model cost. By providing a richer distribution for model training, the PT-2 helps mitigate these issues,” said Sorensen.
ORCA Computing said several industries, including manufacturing, energy, and pharmaceuticals, are utilising ORCA’s photonic technology to address complex computational challenges.
In chemical formulation, collaborators are using machine learning to generate new molecules, while the PT-2 is facilitating peptide design in vaccine development through quantum-enhanced generative AI, providing a more efficient alternative to traditional methods.
Co-founder and CEO at ORCA Computing, Richard Murray, said the company’s focus is on exploring new applications within the industry.
“The PT-2 allows users to implement quantum technology with manageable investments. Our ongoing developments will enable users to upgrade their systems and benefit from emerging quantum technologies,” added Murray.
