Netwise to launch East London data centre in July

Written by Mon 24 May 2021

Like its current Central London data centre, the new East London site will be 100% powered by renewable energy

Netwise, a colocation services provider headquartered in London, is set to launch a new facility in July 2021. The new data centre will be located in East London, with dark fibre connection provided by Zayo.

The Netwise East London data centre is a 13,000 sq ft facility, with 10,000 sq ft of white technical space and 256 rack capacity.  It is designed for sustainability, utilizing 1.5 MVA with a PUE of 1.05. The company attributes the low PUE to the use of ‘latest-generation evaporative cooling systems.’

When the project was announced, Matthew Butt, Managing Director of Netwise, noted that the London East facility is the company’s first exercise in carrier neutrality, allowing customers to connect with their own carriers in a Netwise data centre. He noted, “Building bespoke data centres is what we do best, and what has enabled us to grow in the way we have, delivering a range of services to our customers that you simply won’t find anywhere else.”

Like its current Central London data centre, the new East London site will be 100% powered by renewable energy. Backup power will be provided by diesel generators with 8-hour day tanks and 48 hours of diesel stored on site.

Netwise announced that Zayo will provide dark fibre to the new facility, for clients seeking high-capacity interconnect at over 100 Gbps. Zayo dark fibre will connect East London back to Netwise nodes in the Equinix LD8 and Telehouse North data centres.

Matt Seaton, Senior Manager at Netwise, commented on the existing relationship between Netwise and Zayo, and the benefits that working together will provide their customers. “We’ve used Zayo to deliver high capacity links elsewhere on our network for quite some time, so this is a natural evolution of our growing relationship. The diverse route options provided by Zayo will enable the resilient interconnection of our new London East data centre with the rest of our core network.”

“We’re excited to see the positive impacts of this efficient, world-class facility benefit UK clients and beyond.”

Zayo recently announced new appointments to key executive roles, including a new President of the company, COO, CTO, and Chief Legal Officer. These changes in leadership were attributed to the company’s long-term strategy of simplifying operations and supporting innovation in products and services.
