Neos Networks expands footprint with London and Manchester data centres

Written by Wed 18 Oct 2023

Neos Networks has announced two new data centres to its UK-wide fibre network as the company approaches 100 on-net facilities.

The first site connected is the Equinix MA5 data centre in Manchester. The second site is the Telehouse South (THS) data centre located in London Docklands, which will come on-net in the coming months.

Last week Telehouse announced THS will have its capacity increased to 7.7MW across three floors of colocation space. Part of an ‘ongoing process’ by Telehouse, at full build out the 31,000sqm facility will provide 12,000 sqm of colocation space and a total power capacity of 18MW.

Neos Networks said both Equinix MA5 and Telehouse South will be connected with fibre and 100Gbps enabled. The goal is to provide UK businesses with secure, reliable, high capacity connectivity services that meet their business needs.

“We continue to invest in our data centre offering, expanding the reach of our network to bring critical, core connectivity to more UK businesses. And these two new locations will be highly significant in complementing the growth of the UK’s two biggest cities,” said Matt Rees, Chief Technology Officer at Neos Networks.

THS is expected to see demand for connectivity due to its location and support for one of the ‘most critical’ interconnection points in the UK. The data centre is in close proximity to Telehouse North and Telehouse North Two, where Neos Networks stated it experiences high demand for connectivity services.

Rees said Neos Networks has experienced ‘huge’ demand for high capacity services from the Telehouse sites the company has brought on-net to date.

“And with Manchester at the heart of the UK’s digital tech scene, ensuring the availability of scalable, reliable connectivity is essential for digital services innovation and establishing the UK’s technology leadership,” added Rees.

Equinix MA5 opened in the spring of last year and occupies a ‘strategic location’ in Greater Manchester. It joins 11 other Equinix data centres that Neos has on-net across its UK estate, as well as nine other sites across Manchester.
