A new handheld cloud gaming device has been announced by Logitech G and Tencent Games. By building on the hardware expertise of Logitech G and the software skills of Tencent Games, this device is on track to hit the market this year.

A range of cloud gaming services will be supported on the device, with teams at Xbox Cloud Gaming and NVIDIA GeForce NOW working on creating this device.

Thanks to the involvement of leading games developers, it can be expected that users of the device will be able to play AAA rated games. Logitech G and Tencent Games are keeping many of the device specifics under wraps for now, with no exact release date, price or visuals being included in the press release.

“Logitech G’s leadership in PC and console gaming gear make them an ideal partner to help us realize the vision of bringing a better gaming experience to gamer’s around the globe,” said Daniel Wu, general manager of Tencent Games Smart Solution Innovation Lab. “Today marks the start of a new opportunity for our companies to further push the frontiers of gaming devices.”

Unlike conventional gaming devices and platforms, the new cloud device is using data centers to directly stream video games to users. Gamers don’t need to download and install games before playing them, all they need to do is choose their game and play.

While little is known of the software the device will use, the number of major players involved in the device creation is a positive sign that both the hardware and software elements will be market leading, being able to offer a gaming experience that rivals traditional devices.
