AI deep tech company, iGenius, has announced the launch of Colosseum, one of the world’s largest sovereign AI data centres, in collaboration with Vertiv and NVIDIA.
Located in southern Italy and set to go live in 2025, Colosseum is intended to serve industries with strict data security and compliance requirements, including finance, healthcare, and public administration.
The system, built on NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD architecture and powered by NVIDIA Grace Blackwell Superchips, integrates Vertiv’s modular power and cooling infrastructure. Its design aims to balance high computational performance with energy efficiency and regional data sovereignty mandates.
“Harnessing the power of NVIDIA’s cutting-edge accelerated computing and Vertiv’s innovative infrastructure expertise, Colosseum stands as a testament to the transformative potential of sovereign AI,” said Uljan Sharka, CEO of iGenius. “We’re demonstrating how modular systems and software-specific infrastructure enable a new era of mission-critical AI.”
High-Density, Modular Deployment for AI at Scale
The system incorporates Vertiv’s 360AI reference architecture—developed in collaboration with NVIDIA—for data centre power and cooling. The infrastructure is designed to accommodate the high power density requirements of next-generation GPUs such as the NVIDIA GB200 NVL72. This approach enables prefabricated, modular deployment for large-scale AI compute environments.
President of Vertiv EMEA, Karsten Winther, said the unit of compute is no longer the chip; it is the system.
“Through our collaboration with NVIDIA and visionary AI player iGenius, we are proving the efficiency and system-level maturity of delivering the data centre as a unit of compute, unlocking rapid adoption of AI-native power and cooling infrastructure as a catalyst for AI at scale,” added Winther.
Digital Twin Design Accelerates Deployment Timelines
Design of the data centre was supported by NVIDIA Omniverse technologies, allowing Vertiv, iGenius and NVIDIA to simulate the full infrastructure stack through a digital twin before physical deployment. This reduced the need for lengthy testing cycles and enabled faster development through real-time collaboration. According to Vertiv, simulation timelines have been reduced from months to hours, and deployment time by up to 50% compared with traditional data centre builds.
Vice president of DGX platforms at NVIDIA, Charlie Boyle, said AI is reshaping the data centre landscape, demanding new levels of scale, efficiency, and adaptability for global AI factories.
“With physically-based digital twins enabled by NVIDIA Omniverse technologies and Vertiv’s modular design for the iGenius DGX SuperPOD data centre, Colosseum sets a new standard for building supercomputers for the era of AI,” added Boyle.
The facility integrates a prefabricated modular design, combining internal white space with external modular grey space. The infrastructure supports initial rack densities up to 132kw, with the ability to scale as required.
Operational orchestration will be handled through NVIDIA Mission Control, while Vertiv™ Unify will support building management across power, cooling, and compute infrastructure. The software platforms will allow predictive maintenance, closed-loop optimisation, and scenario testing through real-time synchronisation between physical infrastructure and digital models.
