Data centre infrastructure provider, HostDime, unveiled its design plans for a new Tier IV data centre in Mexico, including an event space for conferences and a helicopter pad.

The data centre known as Andromeda will be located in Guadalajara, with construction starting in the first quarter of 2023.

“Guadalajara has innovative technology roots and being the second largest metropolitan city in Mexico, we know this new data center facility will properly serve the surrounding market,” said Eduardo Basulto Jiménez, CEO of HostDime México.

The data centre will be the second Tier IV public data centre in Mexico, representing the highest class certification that a data centre can receive from the Uptime Institute.

“This data center will be constructed based on Tier IV and ICREA V standards. In addition, it will comply with all PCI data security standards, including PCI ISO 27001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 certifications, thus guaranteeing best processes and practices,” added Jiménez.

To achieve Tier IV certification, data centres must have 99.99% availability and often achieve 100% uptime as a result of highly redundant power infrastructure.

HostDime’s three-floor Andromeda data centre spans 100,000 square feet and will deliver 3MW of critical IT load capacity. There will be specific data halls for hybrid cloud workload use cases, Meet-Me Rooms for interconnectivity, and private data center suites.

The HostDime data centre will also be home to Guadalajara’s first peering exchange, GDL-IX, which will interconnect with other exchanges across Mexico. Four manhole entries will be constructed for local carriers to enter the facility and extend their fiber into the Meet-Me Rooms.

HostDime expects this peering exchange ecosystem to serve content to over 90% of the population in Mexico at the lowest latency. The data centre provider also aims to make the facility one of the most interconnected facilities in Mexico.

In keeping with HostDime’s next-generation contemporary design, the data centre will have an indoor/outdoor event space. As a result of the highly congested Guadalajara metro area, HostDime will construct a helicopter pad to transport clients to the facility in emergency situations.

The new facility will also include office floors that will inherit the highly redundant power infrastructure implemented in the data centre, offering rentable office space for companies looking to use specialized technology.

The HostDime Andromeda data centre is expected to be commissioned for production in 2024, marking the provider’s second carrier-neutral data centre in Guadalajara. Their existing 20,000 square feet facility is currently at 85% capacity.
