Google Cloud, Continental to build AI solutions for automotive industry

Written by Wed 6 Sep 2023

Google Cloud and Continental have signed a data and AI partnership to build digital solutions for the automotive industry.

Continental will integrate Google Cloud’s Conversational AI technologies into its Smart Cockpit High-Performance Computer (HPC) to redefine automotive voice assistants. This will enable passenger-car communication through natural language, facilitated by generative AI.

“Together with Continental, we will be able to bring our conversational AI technologies to vehicles, making it easier and faster for automotive companies to leverage generative AI to create new passenger experiences in cars,” said Behshad Behzadi, VP of Engineering for Google Cloud GenAI.

Continental’s HPC has a pre-integrated function set, ensuring fast response times and a user-friendly interface. The pre-integrated functions for cluster, ‘infotainment’, and visual driver assistance can reduce costs and bring new vehicles to market faster.

“By working with Google Cloud, we can accelerate our innovation and enhance our solutions for the software-defined vehicle,” said Philipp von Hirschheydt, Head of the Automotive Group Sector and Contintental Executive Board Member.

Google Cloud and Continental aim to broaden their strategic partnership in future to enhance in-car connectivity and passenger experiences.

“Together, we can create a new generation of connected automotive solutions that are not just convenient, but help deliver more safety and better travel experience for passengers,” said Daniel Holz, Vice President of EMEA North at Google Cloud.

In August, Google Cloud announced a partnership with John Lewis worth £100 million over the next five years. The partnership will look to provide shoppers with even more tailored and personalised experiences.
