Completed stage brings total floorspace and available power to 70,228 square metres and 100MVA

Data centre developer and operator Global Switch has completed the final stage of a 70,000 sqm facility in Hong Kong, making it the region’s largest data centre.

The award-winning facility, which first launched in 2017, is located in the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate, close to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange hosting facility and three major submarine cable landing stations.

The new development adds an additional 35,600 square metres and 58MVA of utility power supply, bringing total floorspace and available power to 70,228 square metres and 100MVA, respectively.

The data centre is already a point of presence for major cloud providers, ISPs, international, regional and local telecommunication providers.

Other merits to its name include a slender and CBRE-verified PUE of 1.3, a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum rating and a Hong Kong Green Building Council’s BEAM Plus Gold rating.

Energy-efficiency tech installed at the data centre includes an elevated temperature free cooling system and a high-efficiency uninterruptible power system (UPS).

The data centre also leverages both static uninterruptible power supplies (SUPS) with the generator back-up supply and diesel rotary uninterrupted power supplies (DRUPS). Its 13MW lithium-ion installation is one the world’s largest and thermal storage tanks provide 700m3 of thermal storage that ensure continuous cooling at full load in the event of a city power failure.

Following the launch of the final stage of the data centre, Global Switch’s global footprint has increased to 428,000 square metres (4,600,000 square feet) with a total of 427MVA of utility power capacity.

“Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Global Switch team, our contractors and supply chain have worked tirelessly to ensure that the final stage of our Hong Kong data centre was completed, allowing our customers to commence ramp up of their deployments on schedule,” said John Corcoran, CEO of Global Switch.

“We have witnessed accelerating demand in this market and in addition to completing the data centre, we have also completed major fit-outs for financial services and hyperscale cloud providers,” he added.
