dataR begins construction of data centre in Relligen, Germany

Written by Mon 18 Mar 2024

German data centre colocation company, dataR, has begun construction of its new data centre in Relligen, Germany.

The 2,500 sqm colocation data centre will offer around 600 IT infrastructure racks. The Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) will range between 1.08 to 1.225 using ‘state-of-the-art’ water cooling technology.

The Rellingen data centre will utilise technology with a focus on ecologically responsible construction and operations.

The construction of the Relligen data centre is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Details regarding the capacity of the data centre were not shared.

dataR is a data centre subsidiary of Hamburg-based cloud service provider, x-ion, who will operate the facility once complete.

By minimising environmental impact and maximising data processing potential, dataR hopes to innovate approaches using waste heat for nearby heating projects and sourcing 100% green power. Innovations include adiabatic cooling systems powered by on-site solar panels and chillers using ammonia-based refrigerants to reduce emissions.

dataR was born out of x-ion’s realisation there was insufficient capacity for high-quality data centre space. The company said it aimed to think innovatively and sustainably, like its parent company, x-ion. This led to questions about the requirements for an innovative data centre and how they could differentiate their approach from existing market solutions.
