Colt DCS breaks ground on new London 4 Data Centre

Written by Wed 1 Mar 2023

Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS) has broken ground on its latest hyperscale data centre in London.

The London 4 Data Centre will be located in Hayes, West London. The two data centre buildings will provide 57MW of capacity to support large enterprises and cloud service providers. A third data centre building could be developed, providing and additional 30MW.

“We worked closely with the local community and stakeholders through the planning process to intricately shape all aspects of this development,” said Niclas Sanfridsson, CEO at Colt DCS.

Colt DCS worked with local schools and neighbours in London to outline the economic benefits, the critical nature of data centres, and the opportunities the new build will bring to the community.

The London 4 Data Centre will create around 230 permanent jobs, 350 construction jobs, and 50 apprenticeships.

“We very much see ourselves as part of the local community. That’s why we wanted to share this significant moment with all the key stakeholders we have worked with along the way … to deliver social value in the area. This is truly an exciting journey for us all,” said Richard Wellbrock, VP of Real Estate at Colt DCS.

The data centre buildings at Hayes will use 100% renewable energy, heat pump technology, and back-up biodiesel generators.

Colt DCS also recently announced the appointment of Gilly Cooper as their new Vice President of Human Resources. Cooper will be in charge of key human resources strategy, particularly employee engagement and developing the talent pipeline, working with the hyperscale operator ‘to improve their market offering to prospective data centre employees’.
