Hyperscale data centre solutions company, Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS), has announced it has acquired land for its existing UK site in Hayes, West London, to meet customer demand.

Colt DCS said the expansion will make its Hayes campus one of the largest in the UK. The hyperscale data centre solutions company’s initial Hayes site is being developed and will consist of two buildings on the first site, offering 60MW of IT power, with phase one due to be complete in Q3 2025.

The planned expansion of a second site is a continuation of the current development and will more than double the capacity of the London Hayes Data Centre campus. Colt DCS said it has also secured renewable energy to deliver the capacity required for the new site.

“There is continued strong demand from customers for UK-based hyperscale data centres, driven by continued growth in demand for digital services. To cater for the fast-paced world of digital services, users require scale in their data centre solutions,” said Richard Wellbrock, Chief Commercial Officer, at Colt DCS.

The hyperscale data centre solutions company said the expanded campus will be suited to support the growing demand for capacity of large-scale high-density artificial intelligence (AI) workloads.

West London Emerges as a Data Centre Hub

Colt DCS said West London has emerged as a significant hub for data centre development, driven by the increasing adoption of public cloud services among UK businesses. This area is quickly gaining prominence as one of Europe’s leading submarkets.

London’s stature as a global centre for finance, media, and commerce continues to attract companies seeking expansion opportunities in the UK and Western Europe.

Wellbrock added the Hayes expansion will increase the UK’s capacity and capability to create a vibrant environment for growth.

“We are committed to creating a lasting sustainable impact on the local communities near our facilities and remain a trusted partner for our customers worldwide,” said Wellbrock.

Last year, Colt DCS said it had broken ground on its latest hyperscale data centre in London. The London 4 Data Centre will be located in Hayes, West London. The two data centre buildings will provide 57MW of capacity to support large enterprises and cloud service providers. A third data centre building could be developed, providing an additional 30MW.
