Cloud trend spotting in 2022

Written by Fri 11 Feb 2022

Cloud solutions have become indispensable to businesses in recent years, with the shift to working from home rapidly driving up the cloud market. According to research from Gartner, the global cloud computing market size is set to grow from $445.3 billion in 2021 to $947.3 billion by 2026.

As 2022 continues, a number of cloud trends are expected to play out and transform the ecosystem. Cloud solutions in the supply chain space are set for strong growth, especially in the face of cyberthreats. “Retailers using cloud technology across the supply chain – including transport and distribution – in order to optimise customer service are on the fast track to success in this area,” says Alex MacPherson, account management director at Manhattan Associates told Supply Chain Digital.

Cloud ecosystems, too, are on track to develop this year. Major tech companies, such as Google, are investing further in their partners to establish a competitive ecosystem that meets the needs of their customers.

According to Kevin Ichhpurani, Corporate Vice President, Global Ecosystem and Channels at Google Cloud, 2022 will see the trend of digital transformation driving demand for cloud, which in turn will require a wider range of services from partners.

“The need for highly-skilled partners to accelerate digital transformation for customers has never been greater, and our ecosystem of services partners continues to gain tremendous opportunities to deliver high-value implementation and professional services, industry solutions, and digital transformation expertise,” adds Ichhpurani.

A major shift that can be expected over the coming year is the increasing focus on finding cost savings in existing cloud services, as well as improved financial reporting on cloud costs. A survey from g2.com found that 61% of respondents were looking to optimise costs and 45% are working on an initiative to enhance cloud financial reporting.
