BDx Indonesia announced plans to build a new hyperscale data centre east of Jakarta in Karawang, West Java.
The data centre, called CGK5, will be the 11th data centre for BDx in the Asia Pacific region and the 5th in Jakarta.
The 100MW facility will be located on a campus built on 12 acres of land acquired from PT Suryacipta Swadaya in the Suryacipta City of Industry, ‘one of the most highly sought-after and fully-integrated smart industrial estates in Indonesia’.
The location is key to accelerating digital adoption due to its proximity to the urban centre of Jakarta, where many growing businesses and industries are located. It also bolsters the existing availability zone, providing customers at all five BDx Indonesia data centres with improved redundancy, connectivity, and disaster recovery. CGK5 will also be connected to a smart power grid for additional reliability and contribution to BDx’s – and its customers’ – ESG goals.
“Being the only data center provider offering three availability zones, we are proud to provide our hyperscale and enterprise customers with the highest level of capacity and connectivity, world-class data center operations together with sustainable solutions supporting their growth in this region,” said Mayank Srivastava, CEO of BDx and interim president of BDx Indonesia.
The new facility supports the acceleration of digital adoption in Indonesia.
“As we prepare to break ground on our 100MW greenfield Suryacipta campus in this dynamic market, BDx Indonesia upholds its commitment to support Digital Indonesia and continue its rapid journey of expansion and innovation,” added Srivastava.
BDx Indonesia, a subsidiary of global data centre and connectivity leader BDx, was created to make the most of the fast-growing Indonesian market. In 2021, the data centre market in Indonesia was worth $1.67 billion USD – and is expected to almost double, reaching $3.43 billion by 2027.
To take advantage of the fast-growing market, BDx entered into a joint venture with Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) and Lintasarta worth approximately $300 million USD. In accordance with the agreement, BDx Indonesia assumed operations of four data centres in Jakarta. CGK5 will be the first Indonesian data centre built from the ground up by BDx.
