Bain Capital has officially launched hscale, a next-generation hyperscale data centre platform intended to transform digital infrastructure across the EMEA region.
With more than £842 million (€1 billion) already committed and a long-term, multi-billion-euro investment plan in place, hscale marks a significant step forward in Bain’s global digital infrastructure ambitions.
hscale will focus on building scalable, sustainable, and AI-ready data centres in key metropolitan regions to meet rapidly growing demand from hyperscale clients and cloud providers.
hscale Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Schiebel, emphasised the company’s commitment to sustainability, scalability, and customer-centric service—key pillars that will shape its approach to building next-generation digital infrastructure across EMEA.
“hscale is set to leverage the robust capabilities and strategic assets of our heritage firm, aligning them with the innovative strategies and global expertise of Bain Capital,” said Schiebel.
“With access to cleaner energy projects, we will develop future-proof, scalable digital infrastructure tailored to the evolving needs of hyperscalers, driven by the rapid growth of AI and cloud services. Our friendly, honest, and timely customer service sets hscale apart, allowing our customers the quickest journey to market.”
hscale is now positioned as Bain Capital’s flagship hyperscale platform for the EMEA region.
Aquila Group plays a pivotal role in the venture, holding a 20% equity stake and contributing extensive experience in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure.
Aquila Clean Energy, a subsidiary of Aquila Group, will support hscale’s goal of delivering low-carbon, future-proof infrastructure, aligning with ESG targets and the evolving sustainability mandates of enterprise and hyperscale clients.
1GW Pipeline Poised to Power the EMEA Region
hscale’s current pipeline spans more than 1GW of data centre capacity across strategic European cities, including Milan, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Oslo, Barcelona, and Zaragoza.
Michael Huber, a Principal at Bain Capital, spoke about the future of hscale in the EMEA region. “With a planned multi-billion Euro investment over the coming years, hscale is poised for rapid expansion. Our strategic pipeline includes over 1GW of projects in key locations,” he said, “with more than 100MW already under construction.”
“This positions hscale to deliver near-term solutions that meet the specific requirements of our hyperscaler clients.”
