The local government of Andhra Pradesh, in the Indian region of Visakhapatnam, has approved the allotment of 130 acres of land to Adani Enterprises, for use in part to build a data centre.
The land will also be used for a business park, skills university and a recreation centre, in addition to the data centre campus. Overall, the venture will contribute nearly 25,000 jobs to the local economy.
When fully operational, the data centre is expected to provide 200 MW of capacity. The company that received the allotment, the Adani Group, is a conglomerate of a number of different businesses. Adani’s interests cross industries from airport and port management to electric and renewable power. The Adani Group recently became the third Indian enterprise to pass $100 billion USD market capitalization.
Earlier this year, Adani Enterprises announced a joint venture with data centre company EdgeConneX. The joint venture, known as AdaniConneX, will focus on leveraging Adani’s renewable power and infrastructure expertise while incorporating EdgeConneX’s Edge OS data centre operations solution.
AdaniConneX has planned a network of hyper scale data centres – including the location recently approved in Vizag – along with a portfolio of edge data centres – to meet rapidly growing demand throughout India. The data centre market in India is expected to reach $1.5 billion USD by 2022, making it an attractive investment for data centre owner/operators.
Adani Enterprises has a stated goal to reach 25 GW of renewable power generation by 2025. The AdaniConneX data centres are planned as environmentally sound, clean and sustainable, powered by Adani Green Energy. Their strategy is to construct the hyper scale and edge data centres to accommodate a carbon-neutral footprint.
