Techerati and Funny Women are teaming up for a unique evening of comedy celebrating women in tech…

Funny Women and CloserStill Media present:

Techerati HERlarious

Humour and confidence for women in tech.

Technology has always been associated with masculinity. It’s time to change the narrative and acknowledge the contribution that women have made to technological progress. To celebrate International Women’s Day 2019, CloserStill Media has joined forces with leading comedy experts Funny Women, to create Techerati HERlarious, an immersive event comprising workshops, a panel discussion and comedy.

Funny Women is the UK’s leading female comedy community. It has been helping women to perform, write and do business with humour since 2002 – the aim of Techerati HERlarious is to help boost female confidence and improve visibility and impact for women in the workplace, business and beyond.

Explore how to express your ideas more confidently and freely using some of the tried and tested tricks of the comedy trade, and get some insights and inspiration to build your career, start a business or reinvent yourself! Get valuable advice on how to ‘perform’, write great copy, bring your ideas to life and develop techniques to communicate more effectively. Humour is essential in business today as it is in our personal lives. Find ways to present yourself in a more relaxed, authentic style and develop your own personal story.  Improve your self-confidence and esteem, communicate more effectively and memorably, and find out how to engage with passion.

Facilitated by Lynne Parker, founder and chief executive of Funny Women

Lynne Parker is an award-winning producer who created Funny Women In 2002, now the UK’s leading community for female comedy helping women to perform, write and do business with humour. The Funny Women Awards are about to enter their 16th year and Lynne has produced shows at the Edinburgh Fringe and all over the UK. Lynne also coaches people in business and public life based on stand-up techniques to improve self-confidence and presentation skills both professionally and personally.

To stand out requires a level of confidence – confidence in your skills, knowledge and abilities as well as confidence in how you feel. People who stand out, for the right reasons, know that how they feel about themselves has a direct impact on their day to day performance in whatever they do. People who stand out are resilient, they know their strategies of how to get up after a knock and they know how to use their energy levels throughout the day to get the best out of themselves…they work with their MOJO!

Facilitated by Tracey Barr, strategy consultant

Tracey Barr is a leading independent strategy consultant with over 30 years’ experience of providing expert advice and project leadership, management and support to a diverse range of strategic and business development projects, with a particular focus on the healthcare sector.  Prior to working as an independent she held roles as Managing Director of a privately-owned Corporate Communications company, a General Manager (with BUPA, the NHS and Quaker Oats) and a Strategy Consultant (with The LEK Partnership and Arthur Andersen).

A New York Times survey in 1984 placed death third in a list of people’s biggest fears.  The first two were walking into a room full of strangers and speaking in public.  So, what’s the worst that can happen?  Lean how comedians bounce back when they metaphorically ‘die’ on stage and face up to the almost universal fear of getting your voice heard.

Facilitated by Rachel Creeger, comedian, writer, director and speaker

Rachel Creeger is an award-winning comedian, director and writer whose work has been seen across the UK and internationally. A sought-after speaker and educator, she has delivered workshops and team building sessions for conferences, corporate events and festivals and provides speech writing and performance coaching. Rachel regularly comperes comedy gigs and large-scale charity events and is a firm favourite with Funny Women audiences. She has worked with Barclays PLC, Goldsmiths University and WriteSpace and recently completed a six-week guest run on BBC Radio London, providing a comedic look back at the day’s news.

Increase your confidence in the workplace and feel more empowered by owning exactly who you are in respect of culture, gender, age, ability and background.  Explore how promoting your own individuality can feed into the diversity of the working environment you inhabit and use your experience to develop talent and build teams.

Facilitated by Mariana Feijo, comedian, writer and photographer

Mariana Feijo is a comedian, performing stand-up, character, sketch and improv comedy in London. As a multi-hyphenated person, she’s also a photographer, writer and social media consultant specialising in live theatre, production and promotional events. She co-produces an all-female identifying comedy night and hosts a weekly improv show in central London. Her photos have been published by the BBC, East End Film Festival and Slapdash Festival.

Inclusive Tech: What impact do women have on the world of tech?

This panel session will provide a recap of the key themes from the workshop sessions – including the importance of self-confidence, esteem, resiliency and owning your diversity. The discussion will delve into how we act to change the masculine narrative surrounding tech, acknowledging the female impact on technological advancement and looking to an exciting, visible, future of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.
